Sweet dreams

I had a strange dream the other night. Funny thing is, even though I woke up thinking to myself how screwy the dream was, about 5 minutes later, I had forgotten everything about it. Which, I think, is typical for most people and their dreams.

I do, however, have several recurring dreams that I remember clearly. What they say about me is anyone's guess, but, since I can't think of anything else to write about right now, I guess I'll bare my psyche to the world.

  • One of the earliest dreams I can remember is the dream where I'm handicapped- I was usually either blind or suddenly unable to walk, occasionally both. I haven't had that dream in ages- it seemed to fade after elementary school.
  • Possibly the strangest recurring dream I've had is the "Night of the Living Dead" scenario in which I was the last person left alive in a world of zombies. This dream was nearly always triggered by my watching a movie in which someone came back from the dead. However, neither Shaun of the Dead nor The Greatest Story Ever Told triggered this dream.
  • That dream where I'm in school and look down and realize I'm naked. I stopped having this dream after I graduated. Then it became the dream where I'm at work and look down and realize I'm naked.

I haven't had any of those dreams in years, though. The only recurring dream I have now is the one where it's the last day of the semester and I suddenly realize that there's once class I failed to show up for, and, in fact, I'd completely forgotten it was on my schedule. Of course, it's an important class, and I need an "A" in it if I'm going to graduate.

Whenever I'm stressed, this is the dream that I have. In some cases it's so vivid that even after waking up, I have to convince myself I'm not back in school.

So- any of you have any weird dreams you want to share? Or any analyses of what's really going on this sick, twisted brain of mine?

I still wake up after having the "oh my god, I have to get out of my last class in a hurry and make it down all the stairs in the building and all the stairs outside the building to get in my assigned bus on time because if I don't, I'm not going home!" I also have the "I need to get to class and I can't remember where my locker is or my combo". The falling one happens occasionally. And recently one involving a purple Chrysler, although I have no idea what a Chrysler looks like.

I must say, I've never had a naked dream. I have had the "showing up for class on the final day without having been there for most the term" dream, but since that actually happened to me in real life many times I kind of write that one off.

I read about creating a Dream Journal a long time ago, so I started one. Basically, the claim was the once the real world starts happening to you, you lose your dream thoughts pretty quickly. So, as soon as you wake up, start writing what you remember about your dreams for that night. Eventually, you will remember all of your dreams. It has worked for me.

Now the question I have is whether everyone has dreams as weird as I do but just tend to forget them since they do not write them down or do I have uniquely weird dreams? Once you remember more of them, I would be interested to hear of any really strange ones that you have.

Actually, I'm not all that interested in remembering my dreams. I think, for the most part, they're just your brain dumping out a bunch of weird stuff. The only dream of mine that I think has any significance is the end-of-the-semester dream, because it tends to pop up when I have a lot of stress during the day. (I had it almost nightly a few years ago after I was laid off and was searching for a job.) It's kind of a warning bell to slow down and stop worrying.

The only ones I truly remember are the rather nightmarish ones. The only non-nightmarish one I remember was one I had as a kid. Very "Alice Down the Rabbit Hole", literally.

I also think it's a subconcious "dump" but also that the subconcious registers things throughout the day that our concious didn't, so when we have dreams that are "precognitive" or "future seeing", it's because things were put together by the subconcious and transferred to a dream. I have become the "dream analyzer" for my friends and family.
